New Federal Regulation for Best Management Practices (BMP's)
The new regulations are in effect for Best Management Practices of handling Amalgam. VSDS is working with the state to meet those requirements with our next Vermont filing (January 2019). The state will have a booth at the Vermont Dental Conference (formerly the Annual Meeting) in September for offices to have assistance in completing their 2019 submission. You will also be able to complete the signature form onsite and be done.
Two important facts about this new national regulation:
A one-time signature form is now required.
Endodontics is now included in the group who need to submit BMP's.
Read a notice from Karen Knaebel at the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation about this process.
VSDS at Washington Leadership Conference
The Vermont State Dental Society sends dentists to Washington, DC to attend the Leadership Conference and meet with key legislators. Executive Director, Vaughn Collins, scheduled the group for several meetings and American Dental Association conference events.
While there, they visited with Senator Bernie Sanders who filmed part of their visit to promote more discussion on the rising cost of education for dentists and its impact on young dentists to practice in rural locations. See the excerpt.
Dr. Judith Fisch, First District Trustee, Dr. Audra Pinto, VSDS Executive Board, Vaughn Collins, VSDS Executive Director, Linsey Cunningham, UNE dental student, and Dr. Chris Pazandak, VSDS Executive Board, showed their spirit at the conference.
