File a Complaint

The strength of the dentist-patient relationship is important for long term overall success in oral health. The key components to this are good communication, understanding, and mutually agreed upon expectations. The Vermont State Dental Society understands that sometimes there will be situations in which the validity of the patient-dentist relationship is compromised.

If you feel that you have received inappropriate treatment, or have a misunderstanding that cannot be readily solved between you and your ​dentist, than the Patient Mediation Process may be appropriate for you. During this process, an outside, unbiased third party volunteer dentists will examine the facts of your complaints by gathering information related to your case. The review will take into account information presented by both you and the dentist in question; and with the predominant goal being to reach a solution that satisfies both parties.

Patient Mediation is not appropriate for all situations; those involving potential malpractice, insurance disputes, office procedures, and discourteous behavior by a staff member would be just a few to mention that would not be remedied by the mediation process. Please also note that the Patient Mediation process is a member benefit, and is therefore available to only dentists who are members of the Vermont State Dental Society and the American Dental Association.
